AHIS Annual Conference 2010

Wellcome Collection Conference Centre , Euston Road, London

The committee is very excited about this year’s conference – we have an excellent venue and an enthralling line up of speakers.

  • Geoff Bilder, who is Director of Strategic Initiatives for CrossRef. Geoff will speak about possibilities in the future of information.
  • Dr Simon Chaplin, the recently appointed Head of the Wellcome Library will speak about developments at the Wellcome Library and how its collections continue to be an important resource for researchers and a delight to the public.
  • Bruce Jones, who is a vet and a founder member of the Veterinary History Society and the British Small Animal Veterinary Association. Bruce will talk about the importance of veterinary history and of veterinary historical collections and archives.
  • Professor David Nicholas, who is Director of the Department of Information Studies at University College London; Director of the UCL Centre for Publishing; and Director of CIBER research group. David will cover the changing behaviour of information users and how information professionals can adapt to ensure they’re assisting users find, evaluate and make best use of information resources
  • James Sawyer, who is Head of Disaster Management at the World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA). James will speak about veterinary responses following natural disasters and emergencies.

We have also arranged some guided tours of the Wellcome Collection to finish the day. There are two tours to choose from:

  • Medicine Man, highlighting some key items from Henry Wellcome’s collection
  • Medicine Now, which “presents a range of ideas about science and medicine since Henry Wellcome's death in 1936”

After the tours we hope you can join us for a drink to close proceedings.

The conference will open at 10am for registration and coffee and will finish at 5:30pm.

The Cost for the Conference is £65 for AHIS Members, £90 for non-members (The £65 rate applies to all delegates from a member institution.)
